Scales

Pair a feed scale to FeedComp App using your mobile device's Bluetooth connection. Make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device, and then connect it on the Account Settings screen in the app. Note that some scales may require configuration before you connect it to the FeedComp App.

IMPORTANT: If you connect to equipment containing an overnight load, an overnight load notification with a red alert icon is displayed. You'll need to use other equipment until the overnight load is completed. See Mix Overnight Loads to learn more.

  • Topcon Digi-Star scale indicator (EZ2810 and EZ3410)

You can check the FeedComp System Requirements page on the VAS website to confirm whether your device is supported and compatible with FeedComp.

  1. Tap your user icon at the top right of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Select the Equipment to connect.
  4. Tap Connect to Scale and select the scale to connect. After a scale is connected to your mobile device, the Bluetooth icon displays at the top left of each screen in the FeedComp App.
  1. Open the Scale-Tec POINT scale app.
  2. Select the scale device.
  3. Tap Configure Device.
  4. Tap Adjust Individual Settings.
  5. Under Display, tap C1: Display Count and set the value to 1.
  6. Tap Submit to save your changes.

Before you connect a Topcon Digi-Star scale to the FeedComp App, you must confirm that the scale settings match the settings listed below. The connection may not work if the settings do not match.

NOTE: If you use Trioliet Shifttronic products with your scale, contact FeedComp Support at fwsupport@vas.com or 888-225-6753 to ensure that you apply the correct settings for your configuration.

Follow the steps below to review or configure the settings on your scale to make sure they match the Required Settings:

NOTE: If you have an indicator with a number pad, you can manually enter each Direct Access Number (D.A.N.) for each parameter in Required Settings, then review or configure each setting.
  1. On your Topcon Digi-Star scale, press Select repeatedly until the Menu is displayed.
  2. Press and hold Function until you see the menu choices.
  3. Repeatedly press Select to select Menu 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.
  4. Press Enter to view the first setting name. Pay close attention: the setting name only displays once.
  5. Check whether the setting is configured to the value listed in Required Settings:
    1. If the setting is not configured correctly, press Net/Gross or Select to scroll through the options and press Enter to select the correct value. The screen automatically displays the next setting. 
    2. If the setting is configured correctly, press Enter to review the next setting.
  6. Repeat the steps to review or configure each setting in each menu.

3001 Display Count. Only set this value if you need to update the display count increments shown on the scale. This value is also used to round off the preset value by the scale. You cannot change this value in the app. COUNT Select the preferred value.

After you confirm that the scale settings match the required settings, connect the indicator to your mobile device via Bluetooth:

  1. Open your mobile device's Bluetooth settings.
  2. Connect the indicator.
  3. After it is connected, shut down the app completely and make sure it is cleared from your list of background apps.
  4. Follow the instructions in Connect a Scale to connect the scale to the FeedComp App.

If you have a completely new mixerClosed A piece of farm equipment that mixes all the loaded ingredients for a feed recipe. Mobile mixers are most common, but stationary mixers also exist., calibrate the Topcon Digi-Star scale indicator to ensure that all the measurements are accurate. Watch the video to learn how:

If the connection fails when you attempt to Connect a Scale, check the following, depending on your scale model:

    • Verify that no other devices are currently connected to the scale. Only one device can be connected to a Topcon Digi-Star scale at a time.
    • Check the Topcon Digi-Star scale ID and make sure it starts with "TMR-".
      1. On the keypad, enter 1003 and press Select. The current ID displays.
      2. If the ID does not start with "TMR-", use the keypad to change it. Press Enter to save the ID.
    • Verify that Bluetooth is enabled on the Topcon Digi-Star scale.
      1. On the keypad, enter 90022 and press Select.
      2. If the display shows an error message, press the ZERO button four times and then ON. The keypad shows the current Bluetooth setting as ON or OFF.
      3. If Bluetooth is OFF, press the Function button to select ON and Enter to save the setting.
    • If FeedComp crashed on your device the last time it was connected to the scale, the connection may still be active. Turn the scale off and back on. Then reconnect the scale from FeedComp.
    • Ensure that the Topcon Digi-Star scale settings match the settings listed in Configure a Topcon Digi-Star scale.
    • If you use a Topcon Digi-Star scale and the FeedComp App will not complete a drop or automatically advance to the next pen, make sure that the mixer's Drop Tolerance is set to a minimum value of 1. If you use 0 for the Drop Tolerance value, the FeedComp App may not complete drops correctly. To update your mixer's Drop Tolerance, tap Adjustments at the bottom of the FeedComp App screen, tap Equipment, and select the mixer to make your changes.
  • If FeedComp crashed on your device the last time it was connected to the scale, the connection may still be active. Turn the scale off and back on. Then reconnect the scale from FeedComp.
  • Reference the Scale-Tec Support Center if you are having other issues.
